I am 90% sure we will be meetintg
on Tuesdays again this year over lunch. Due to my travel schedule,
the first month of class would be a bit funky, and I'd like to do this in
terms of this semester's schedule:
Class 1:
September 12-- Sunday night (after church, if applicable) for dessert
at our house, we discuss the first book (it's very short),
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the discussion questions I will hand
out in advance. I will then introduce
Pride and Prejudice, so the boys don't flip and the girls don't
give up. Parents are invited to this
first class meeting,
maybe 730 PM to 900 PM. This is tentative, but my best guess right now.
Pleas holler asap if this makes you crazy.
Class 2 (regular class time):
September 21-- Tuesday lunch hour (1130 to 100) at my office.
Discuss Pride and Prejudice.
No class the following
Tuesday, Sept 28. Keep reading P&P.
Class 3: Tues, October
5. More P & P.
Class 4: Tues,
Oct 12. Finish Pride and Prejudice. Introduce
Hawthorne and Poe.
No class
Oct 19
Class 5: Tues,
Oct 26 Discuss Hawthorne and Poe short stories
Class 6: Tues
Nov 2
Huckleberry Finn
Class 7: Tues
Nov 9 Huckleberry Finn
Class 8: Tues
Nov 16 Huckleberry Finn
Class 9: Tues
Nov 23 Huckleberry Finn
No Class Tues
Nov 30 unless necesary to introduce Charles Dickens
I think I can get more reading in than this,
but we'll likely take it slow to begin. We will be reading over the
Christmas break as
well, having read part of
Great Expectations
(I think) before the first class in January.
