Literature Fall 2011
Your first assignment is to read How to Be Your Own Selfish Pig and answer the attached study questions before our first class, Thursday, September 8.* We will meet at the Center for Christian Studies, 302 N. Johnson (a block behind the OLD First Baptist Church). We will usually meet at 11:30, but the first class will be in the afternoon. Here is the schedule for the semester.

This book is available EVERYWHERE—library, used book stores, online. We will be reading only portions, so don’t pay a lot. The edition or format does not matter
3. September 27 Homer, The Iliad, Books I - III (trans. Robert Fitzgerald
I want everyone to have the Fitzgerald translation.
4. October 4 Iliad, Books, IV - VI
5. October 11 Iliad, Books VII - X
[No Class October 18]
6. October 25 Iliad, Books XI - XVI
7. November 1 Iliad, Books XVII – XX
8. November 8 Iliad Books XXI - XXIV
9. November 15 Sophocles, Oedipus Rex .(trans. Robert Fagles (Penguin Classics).
I would like everyone to have the Fagles translation, but the particular edition is not important. We will be reading Oedipus Rex and Antigone from this collection. I will be looking for some used copies for everyone; if you want only new, let me know
