Art for Beginners: DRAWING
Fall Students: 10 Fridays for fall, and 2 Fridays in spring
Spring Students: 12 Fridays for spring after the switch from Mrs.B’s Music class, etc.
All Art Students: Share Day (each student will have 1 Final Project on display for Share Day)
As seen in the Old Testament, God really cares about symmetry, form, function, color and all the beautiful artistic details as shown, for example, when He instructed the Israelites on the building of the Tabernacle! This year, I will introduce children to the joys of being creative and expressing oneself through art while teaching all the basics of drawing. Students will build a foundation for drawing by learning to sketch lines and basic shapes to build what they see. We will learn about space / shape / proportions as well as 2D and 3D, shading, light and dark, texture, perspective, composition, layout, design, balance, etc.
While this is not a “project driven” class, one of our goals will include working carefully toward a frame-able, Final Project which could be one of the following works of art from each student’s sketchbook:
m a Self-Portrait
m or a Realistic Animal Drawing (using a photo reference)
m or a Still Life (using artist’s choice of objects such as: flowers, fruit, etc.)
PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: In an attempt to maintain a non-threatening environment, we will also remind children about respecting one another’s ideas and workspace. Students will be discouraged from making hurtful comments about each other’s artwork, (“Thumper Rule”… if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all”) J and will not be allowed to mark on another student’s artwork or sketchbook.
