Officer Elections for 2003-2004

Election of CHEMPA Officers will be held at a parent meeting in May.  Please consider running for office or whether there is someone you’d like to nominate.  The description of the positions follows.  Several from this year’s board have agreed to serve again, if elected.

President.  The President is the chief executive officer of CHEMPA and shall perform such duties as are incidental to that position.  The President will conduct and preside over Board meetings and meetings of the members (a/k/a “parent meetings”) and may call such special meetings as are necessary.  The President will oversee discipline and special events.  Brian and Teresa Bradley, this year’s vice presidents, have been nominated by the board and are willing to serve as President.

Vice President.  The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in his or her absence and works to assist the President.  The Vice President oversees academic-related activities.

Secretary.  The Secretary keeps minutes of the meetings of the Board of Officers and records of the meetings of the members.  The Secretary is responsible for maintaining the Directory of Members and is the contact for new members.  Jamie Capel, our current president, has been nominated by the board and is willing to serve as secretary.

Treasurer.  The Treasurer has custody of and responsibility for the CHEMPA finances and bank accounts.  The Treasurer shall keep financial records, deposit and pay monies, and give a quarterly (or other regular) financial report.  Christine Ballard, who has served as treasurer for years, has been nominated by the board and is willing to continue to serve.

Information Director.  The Information Director produces and distributes the monthly newsletters from August through May and supervises all communication media.  The Information Director will also maintain a group calendar.  Mike and Lisa Schutt have been nominated by the board and are willing serve again.

There are qualifications for the officers.    The President shall have at least two-years’ homeschooling experience prior to taking office, and all other officers must have at least one year’s homeschooling experience prior to taking office.

In addition, any one office may be held by an individual or by a married couple who agree to perform the duties of the office together.

A list of the nominated candidates will be circulated when we announce the date and place of the May meeting.  The nominations may be made in advance of the meeting or at the meeting.

In order to make sure that your nominations are circulated before the May meeting, turn in your nominations to Jamie Capel  before April 28.

    Yearbook Information:

Get your page to a yearbook editor or Jamie Capel by April 15.  Don’t give up if you haven’t done it yet.  I (Lisa) haven’t started and still plan to hand in a plainer-than-last-year page with pictures (that I haven’t taken yet).  Better something than nothing!

    Bob Farewell

Try to come to this!  If we have a good turn out at academic things that CHEMPA sponsors, we will be more likely to have more things!!

Bob Farewell, a homeschooling father and Civil War historian, will be giving a living-history dramatization on the War Between the States to our homeschoolers and their families.  He speaks at homeschool book fairs across the country.  He and his family own Lifetime Books and Gifts.

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 12, 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

For more info, contact Brian Bradley or check Mr. Farewell’s website at www.lifetimebooksandgifts.com.

Moms’ Meeting

Moms’ meeting is 7:00, Tuesday April 22, at Jamie Capel's house.  The topic will be "Chocolate: don't ya just love it?" Bring your favorite dessert and be prepared to talk a lot (or listen a lot). Come and be encouraged.

Moms’ Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month throughout the school year.

Teen Banquet

This year’s Teen’s Banquet will be held at the Logos Christian Center fellowship hall on Tuesday, April 29 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. A fajita buffet catered by El Chicos will set the tone for a Mexican fiesta.  Dress for the evening will be “your Sunday best”.  Teens may bring a friend.  Parents are also welcome to come spend the evening with us.  Tickets are $12 per person and must be purchased from Teresa Bradley by Thursday, April 24th.  The entertainment will be a young couple from LeTourneau University.  There will be no formal pictures taken this year so bring your camera.  Contact Teresa Bradley for more information .

Behavior and dress should be pleasing to the Lord.

Six Flags – Homeschool Day

Six Flags has Homeschool Day every year and many from our group go.  Although we do not go as an official CHEMPA group, some families do caravan or meet there.  It is a wonderful day.  We’ve (Mike and Lisa) gone once to the Homeschool Day and noticed a real difference in the crowd in behavior and modest dress.
